Story order tips
One Night City continuity: Cyberpunk: Edgerunners (2076–2077) → Cyberpunk 2077 main campaign → Phantom Liberty (mid-2077 branch after Act 2). The anime enriches the game but is optional—play or watch in either order for a first run.

- Phantom Liberty needs a save at the right Act 2 point—do not finish the main story first
- Edgerunners S1 references land harder after watching—optional 2076 prequel
- Edgerunners 2 → Disputed story-order titles: community reads AX ep. 1 as 2077 parallel, not post-Phantom Liberty

- Release date
- Netflix premiere September 13, 2022. English and Japanese audio; no game install required to watch.

Release order
Release timeline: Cyberpunk 2077 (2020) → Edgerunners anime (2022) → Phantom Liberty (2023) → Edgerunners 2 (Fall 2026, Netflix). Story order follows confirmed Night City fiction: Edgerunners (2076) → Cyberpunk 2077 → Phantom Liberty (2077 mid-campaign). Edgerunners 2 has a Disputed story-order title (2077 parallel)—Anime Expo inference, not CDPR-confirmed; see the lore FAQ.
Game timeline: Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Edition → start Phantom Liberty mid Act 2 (do not finish the main ending first).
Anime watch order: Edgerunners (2022) before, during, or after Act 1; Edgerunners 2 (Fall 2026) after Act 1 if you want 2077 Easter eggs.
Suggested first run: start 2077 → optional Edgerunners S1 after Act 1 → Phantom Liberty → Edgerunners 2 when it drops. For Edgerunners 2 lore year, see the timeline FAQ.
Buy Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Edition (base game + Phantom Liberty) on PC, PS5, or Xbox Series X|S. Watch Cyberpunk: Edgerunners (season 1) before or after Act 1—both work. For Edgerunners 2 (Fall 2026), finish Act 1 of 2077 first if you want Konpeki Plaza, Afterlife, and Arasaka references to land—the show may run parallel in 2077 (unconfirmed). Do not use the 2020 launch build—Update 2.0 is the baseline. Finish Phantom Liberty before wrapping the main ending.
Story & lore
Season 1—any of these work: before 2077 for emotional context; after Act 1 while you know Night City; after the game without main-plot spoilers. David's cast is optional for gameplay (story-order titles: 2076). Edgerunners 2 is different: if the 2077 parallel read holds, watch after 2077 Act 1 (ideally mid-campaign)—not as a 2076 prequel like season 1. See the lore FAQ: When does Edgerunners 2 take place?
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 is a 10-episode standalone Netflix anime in Night City—not David Martinez's sequel. CD PROJEKT RED × Studio TRIGGER target Fall 2026 on Netflix (exact date unannounced as of July 2026; trailer June 30, 2026). A Netflix Korea social post briefly showed October 20—fans captured it, then the comment was changed back to the seasonal window; treat that date as unconfirmed. New cast: Weak, D, Roman, and Talia. Season 1 sets tone but is not required. Not Project Orion. In-fiction year is unconfirmed—this page uses a Disputed 2077 parallel story-order titles; see the lore FAQ for clues and limits.
Clues in ep. 1: Night City matches the game; Weak pings the Arasaka tower; Afterlife appears; netrunner quickhacks mirror gameplay; dialogue hints Arasaka "went through some shit lately" (vague Konpeki-era nod).
Counterpoints: no on-screen date; some viewers place ep. 1 slightly before V's main arc or span 2077→2080; tech looks newer than season 1 to some eyes.
Why 2077 fits narratively: a parallel street story lets CDPR reference shared events (Konpeki heist, blackouts, parade) without locking V's gender, lifepath, or ending—V may stay rumor-only.
2080+ less likely: Phantom Liberty and tabletop lore point to a later corp war for Project Orion, not this anime. This page shows a Disputed story-order title at 2077 (unconfirmed)—we will retag or move it when CDPR confirms.
