When Arrowhead shipped each Helldivers chapter in the US—Helldivers (December 2015 on PlayStation, later PC) and Helldivers 2 (February 2024).

  • Newcomers 2026 → Helldivers 2 (PS5 / PC, Steam 553850)
  • HD1 optional → top-down co-op on PS4 / PC if you want the 2015 origin
  • HD2 does not require HD1 saves or story completion

Release order

Release order is when Helldivers (2015) and Helldivers 2 (2024) launched in the US. Story order follows the Managed Democracy setting—HD1 first for satire context, then HD2. HD2 is not a tight narrative sequel; either order works for gameplay.

Recommended for most players: Helldivers 2 (PS5 / PC). Add Helldivers (2015) only if you want the top-down origin or more Super Earth jokes. You do not need HD1 to enjoy HD2.
